A Cranberry Pecan Cheese Ball is a classic, festive appetizer, especially popular during the holiday season! It’s easy to prepare, perfect for serving a crowd, and visually stunning with its vibrant colors and crunchy coating.

The appeal of this particular flavor combination lies in the balance of creamy, savory, and sweet/tart notes.

Here is a foolproof recipe for a delicious Cranberry Pecan Cheese Ball:

🎄 Festive Cranberry Pecan Cheese Ball

This recipe yields a medium-sized cheese ball, perfect for sharing.

🛒 Ingredients

For the Cheese Ball Base

  • 8 oz (225g) Cream Cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 4 oz (115g) Goat Cheese (softened, or use another 4 oz of cream cheese for a milder flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Dried Cranberries (roughly chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Green Onions/Scallions (thinly sliced)
  • 1 clove Garlic (minced very finely, or use 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce (or a dash of hot sauce for depth)
  • Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper (to taste)

For the Coating

  • 1 cup Pecans (finely chopped, toasted is best)
  • 2 Tbsp Dried Cranberries (reserved whole or roughly chopped)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Base (5 minutes)

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and goat cheese together until smooth and fluffy. Ensure the cheeses are soft, otherwise the ingredients won’t mix evenly.
  2. Add the chopped cranberries, sliced green onions, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the cheese mixture.
  3. Mix everything thoroughly until the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the cheese base.

2. Shape and Chill (10 minutes)

  1. Scrape the entire mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap.
  2. Gather the plastic wrap around the mixture and use your hands to firmly shape it into a tight ball.
  3. Chill: Refrigerate the cheese ball for at least 2 hours (or up to overnight). Chilling is crucial to ensure the ball is firm enough to coat.

3. Coat and Serve (5 minutes)

  1. On a plate, mix the chopped pecans and the reserved dried cranberries for the coating.
  2. Remove the plastic wrap from the chilled cheese ball.
  3. Roll the cheese ball firmly in the pecan and cranberry mixture, pressing the coating onto the surface until the entire ball is covered.
  4. Place the finished cheese ball onto a serving platter.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with: Water crackers, bagel chips, baguette slices, or crisp vegetables like celery and cucumber.
  • Make Ahead: The cheese ball can be prepared up to 3 days in advance (without the final pecan coating) and stored tightly wrapped in the refrigerator. Coat it just before serving.

Would you prefer a recipe for a sweet dessert cheese ball instead, perhaps with chocolate chips and graham crackers?
